Fall brings changing colors, cooler weather, and the Thanksgiving holiday. At Children’s of Mississippi, we’re thankful for the support from organizations and individuals that allow us to provide state-of the art, high-quality care and an exceptional patient experience.

Children’s Heart Center one of select few to access newly approved heart valve

A newly approved heart valve can be placed through a catheter-based procedure instead of open-heart surgery, giving patients at the Children’s Heart Center at Children’s of Mississippi a less-invasive treatment option with a shorter recovery.

Stephanie and Mitchell Morris' philanthropy will support and advance research and care of patients with cleft and craniofacial conditions.

Stephanie and Mitchell Morris’ gift will fund the purchase of endoscopes and create an endowment to support the center and its research and care. The center, part of Children’s of Mississippi, includes the state’s only cleft and craniofacial care teams certified by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.

Medical information, schedules, video games and movies – all are options with MyChart Bedside, a tablet-based app provided to patients and their families in pediatric intensive care and in the medical-surgical units of Children’s of Mississippi. When patients go home, their parents can still access their hospital details through MyChart.

An autograph exchange with PGA TOUR golfer Sam Burns led to a day at the Sanderson Farms Championship for Mary Mosley Pickering, a patient at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Mississippi, and her family.

Maggie Hanberry’s fight against stage IV cancer has inspired a memorial that’s matching gifts to help fund renovations to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Mississippi. Her experiences as a patient are influencing updates to the center.

With more than 25 years of experience in health care, Chief Operations Officer Kernizan comes to Children’s of Mississippi from Palms West Hospital, an inpatient acute care and children’s hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she was COO.
